Evaluation 4
How did you use media technologies in the construction, and research, planning and evaluation stages?
We used media technologies from the beginning of the project in order to thoroughly understand and familiarise ourselves with the micro conventions of music videos i.e. length of shot, narrative, and post production. We did this by using google and YouTube to watch and read about a variety of music videos and analysis them.
We then narrowed this knowledge into our own particular genre of indie pop to see how it differs from pop videos. This allowed us to use and add the correct types of scenes, shots and costume.
We used Google to research different locations in London we could go to, to film as well as reading past blogs and reviews to see the locations they shot at and/or reviewed.
Going onto the construction of our work, we used Canon dslr cameras to film our video and then used Adobe Premiere to edit it. On premier we had to learn a range of techniques in order to create the video we first envisioned. Such as jump cuts, adding text over our visuals and reverse shots.
We used photoshop to create our ancillary texts. We had to familiarise ourselves with the programme and used many features to edit and construct the digipak e.g the magic wand tool, the text and the brightness and contrast tools also came in very handy. My favourite tool was ‘colour overlay’ as this allowed me to take pictures behind a white background thus adding a lot more cohesion to the images however the colour overlay tool allowed me to add different colours to each image so they won’t all be boring and they’d go with our ‘vivid’ aesthetic.
We had to use the website DaFont.com to find a larger range of fonts and chose the one that fit the aesthetic of our artist the most. We then used this text along all the media products we produced.
We used blogger all throughout this process in order to record our research, planning and progression enabling us to keep a clear and orderly diary of all our findings and progress.
Finally, we used a range of media technologies to produce our evaluation of our coursework. Personally, I used powerpoint to create a visual slideshow presenting the effectiveness of the combination of my ancillary and main project, I then used scribd to post and embed the slideshow into my blog. I also used the screen record tool on my phone and then iMovie to show what I’ve learnt from audience feedback.

Music Video analysis
Soon we will have finished and published our music video. I am pleased with the outcome because the main prior to production was to create an abstract video that focused mainly on visuals and capturing the ruggedness and beauty of the city. We were able to achieve this whilst very subtly touching on an ambiguous narrative. My own interpretation of the video was that the scenes with Aaliyah and the love interest as well as the scenes where she'd be smiling directly into the camera were like candid videos that her boyfriend was taking for fun, she then revisited the areas she'd been to with him to film where she'd look at lot sadder. The lip-synced scenes in a studio were also representations of our artist post breaking up with her boyfriend.
